Stoats' Last Stand
There is a problem on Waiheke Island. For decades the birdsong and bush was fading away and dying, ravaged by a group of invasive predators that had invaded the island. The worst of which is the deceptively cute stoat.
So, conservation groups from across the island, along with the wider community and iwi, came together, attempting to become the first urban island in the world to eradicate the stoat. Now, six years later, the stoats are on the run as Waiheke prepares to welcome its newest inhabitants.
“Stoats’ Last Stand” shows how the unique collaboration of iwi (tribe), community, and conservation groups can work together to making this dream a reality.
